Euthanasia proponents penned portion of healthcare billCharlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 8/24/2009 7:00:00 AM A conservative activist group says the healthcare reform bill does contain language that could lead to euthanasia, even though the Obama administration claims otherwise. Family Research Council Action is one of the groups that has taken a close look at all the healthcare bill. FRC vice president Tom McCluskey tells OneNewsNow there are a number of sections in H.R. 3200 that would lead to rationing which would ultimately deal with the federal government making decisions on euthanasia. One is Section 1233 of the House version. "One reason it is getting concern is that it is written by a congressman, Earl Blumenauer, who supports assisted suicide laws in his own state of Oregon, and also written by a group that used to be known as the Hemlock Society, which is the world's preeminent group on assisted suicide and euthanasia legislation," he points out. McCluskey says it is a matter of guilt-by-association that is very hard to separate from what the proponents of the legislation are trying to say that it does. "When you add to that other sections of the bill, especially on comparative effectiveness research where the federal government would decide based on what is more effective and what is less expensive what kind of treatments people should get, it brings into question, is this really the role of the federal government to be rationing healthcare?" he argues.
