~ Christ’s Birth - Part 3 ~
December 15, 2009
Recap…
Luke 2:1-38 - At that time (of the birth of John the Baptist) a proclamation was made by Caesar Augustus that all the inhabited world should be registered. This was the first census, undertaken while Cyrenius was governor of Syria and everybody went to the town of his birth to be registered. Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to David's town, Bethlehem, in Judea, because he was a direct descendant of David, to be registered with his future wife, Mary, now in the later stages of her pregnancy…
No Room
Luke 2:4-7
(4) So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. (5)He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. (6)While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, (7) and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
Luke 2:8-12
(8) There were some shepherds living in the same part of the country, keeping guard throughout the night over their flocks in the open fields. (9) Suddenly an angel of the Lord stood by their side, the splendor of the Lord blazed around them, and they were terror-stricken. But the angel said to them, (10) "Do not be afraid! Listen, I bring you glorious news of great joy which is for all the people. (11) This very day, in David's town, a Savior has been born for you. He is Christ, the Lord. (12) Let this prove it to you: you will find a baby, wrapped up and lying in a manger."
Luke 2:13-15
(13) Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
(14) "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." (15) When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
So they came as fast as they could and they found Mary and Joseph - and the baby lying in the manger. And when they had seen this sight, they told everybody what had been said to them about the little child. And those who heard them were amazed at what the shepherds said. But Mary treasured all these things and turned them over in her mind. The shepherds went back to work, glorifying and praising God for everything that they had heard and seen, which had happened just as they had been told.
The Magi Bring Gifts
Matt 2:1-6
At the time of Jesus' birth, Herod was king of Judea. When wise men (Magi) from the east saw a star, they came in search, knowing the star signified the birth of the king of the Jews. They came to the Jewish rulers in Jerusalem and asked where the Christ was to be born. The rulers explained, "In Bethlehem in Judea," referring to *Micah 5:2.
*Micah 5:2.
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."
Herod secretly met with the Magi and asked them to report back after they had found the child. Herod told the Magi that he too wanted to go and worship the babe. So the wise men continued to follow the star in search of the new born king and found the baby Jesus in the manger with his mother in Bethlehem.
Matt 2:11
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
Matt 2:12
When they left, they did not return to Herod, because they had been warned in a dream of his plot to destroy the child.
Finale
Over two thousand years ago God’s plan was put into motion. His plan for our salvation! God truly loves us all, he knew we couldn’t save ourselves. His gift to us was that new born babe in a manger, in a little town named Bethlehem. The ONE who would be the redemption for us all. For this awesome purpose we must truly remember the REASON for the SEASON!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL! [/center]
